Reiki Treatments Q & A
What is Reiki? Reiki is a gentle yet powerful system of healing. It holistically treats disorders by working on all levels of one’s being, including the physical, mental and emotional levels.
How is Reiki administered? During a session, Reiki energy is transmitted through the practitioner’s hands as they are placed gently on or slightly above the client in a series of hand positions. Reiki is performed either sitting in a chair or lying down on a massage table while fully clothed.
The person receiving Reiki may feel warmth, tingling, pressure, or sometimes nothing at all. Most people feel a deep sense of relaxation almost right away, and some people even fall asleep or lightly doze off. Reiki helps to create much needed ‘space’ within ourselves. Every Reiki experience is unique for each person, even if you have had numerous treatments. The body and spirit take what they need and are open to at that moment.
Reiki is something that each of us can learn to do and use in our lives to create balance, increased health, abundant joy, and spiritual growth.
What should I expect? Plan to arrive a few minutes early to complete a client intake form. The practitioner will review your general health and goals for the session. You will lie comfortably on a massage table or seated in a chair while fully clothed during your session.
How long does a session last? A Reiki session normally lasts for about an hour, but can be shorter; even a few minutes of Reiki is beneficial.
What are some common health benefits of Reiki? Deep relaxation, stress relief, reduced pain, reduced anxiety and worry, lowered blood pressure, increased mental/emotional clarity, improved sleeping patterns, supports the immune system, helps depression, increases a person's sense of wellbeing, helps to alleviate side effects of chemotherapy, supports conventional medical practices, increased balance on all level, provides ease and comfort in transition.. Reiki transforms a person's life on many levels.
Is Reiki like massage? Unlike massage therapy, Reiki does not involve soft tissue manipulation of the body.
Is Reiki a form of faith healing? Reiki is not a religion, nor does it align itself with any religious doctrine. It does not contradict individual beliefs.
Is Reiki recognized by the medical community? At last count, over 800 hospitals use Reiki practitioners in their cancer centers, for pre and post op surgeries, and hospices. Reiki is NOT a substitute for medical care nor does a Reiki practitioner diagnose. Reiki is safe and gentle and always work for the highest good of the person. Research is being done to prove the effectiveness of Reiki treatments on health.
