The question posed often is this: “How do I begin to understand connecting remotely with everyone, everything, everywhere with Reiki?”
In Second Degree Reiki training, students learn the Distance symbol which they are taught to use as what I call the “bridge” that connects us to sharing Reiki beyond time or distance. We can connect and share Reiki with our past or our future or with someone across the world as easily as we can with someone in our living room. But for many of those who learn Reiki or simply receive Distance Reiki, or what I call remote healing, this can be a concept difficult to wrap one’s head around. Our linear minds may struggle to understand how it works. While there are many books that explain how we are connected from a quantum physics perspective, one of which I recommend at the end of this article, this isn’t purely a left brain learning (this book demonstrates that also). It is a matter of experiencing. Once we “experience” Oneness, we will never again question its existence. Once we feel sunlight on our face on a warm spring day, we can never be told it does not exist. We know it to be true. Understanding how it is that we can connect with someone or something in another time or place or the idea that we are all connected can be perceived only one way - through the practice of stillness. The act of Being. It is in the act of Being, or losing oneself to what exists in our outer world and going within, that we “bump up” against the greater Consciousness that exists all around us at all times. Questioning how this works is good. A discerning mind is a learning mind. Yet at some point we have to stop questioning and allow ourselves to experience it. Reiki is one way of connecting to the energy of the Universe, and, in doing so, our minds go away. We lose ourselves in the act, if we practice well and learn to listen with our inner senses, and we become One with the whole. No time, no space, no distance - we are in and surrounded by Oneness. If we can connect with that energy while sitting in our bed practicing self Reiki, or working with another person in real time, we learn to trust the energy and it becomes more natural for us to understand that we can connect with any person or animal or part of nature in any time or place, because consciousness is everywhere. It’s one big web of connection. The more we practice sharing Reiki remotely, the more we build our belief system when we experience how easily it works. Sharing Reiki remotely with others as practice is a wonderful place to begin. Another way that I have found to connect with this Oneness is though guided meditation. My meditation teacher is Dr. Joe Dispenza and, through his meditations, he helps us to “become nothing, in nowhere, in no time.” Sitting in nature, perhaps under a tree, focusing on being present to what it is, sinking down into that deep present moment awareness, becoming aware of how fast you’ve been spinning along, how distracting your thoughts are, and simply allowing yourself to be is another way that might work for you to begin this journey or, in fact, to remind yourself of it. In a world of doing, tied to our technology, simply "being" is an increasingly foreign concept. Recently I heard one of my teachers explain that the hunter gatherers spent a very small portion of their day collecting their food and a large part of their time was spent sitting around the fire, dreaming and pondering. We can learn much from them. My guess is that they did not need to read or be taught about the Oneness of the Universe, the web that connects everyone and everything. They just knew. And, deep down, so do we, in the innermost part of ourselves that exists in every moment. Happy to help anytime. After several decades on this dear Earth of ours, I can no longer deny that one of the ways I can best communicate is through the written word. So my pledge here to you and to myself is to sing my song of words as they come through me in the hopes of creating a vision for us all. Happy trails.Archives
